SXMCOOKS

Born and raised in Southern Africa to parents whose love of food and its culture laid the foundation for Luci’s life-long love affair with the culinary arts.
Starting at the tender age of three, Luci traveled extensively through the tropics of Central and Southern Africa and enjoyed the diversity of ethnic African cuisines.
Catching fresh seafood or harvesting straight from the land she became adept at using cast iron pots and cooking on open fires from an early age.
Her love affair with the culinary arts includes cuisines from India, Asia, Europe, and Brazil and of course her beloved Africa. She holds culinary certificates for Chinese, Indian and French cuisines.
In the late ’80s Luci set off from South Africa to go cruising with her husband and three daughters.
They spent 6 months in Brazil and then ventured slowly on up to America.
On the way they came across SXM and fell in love with this beautiful Caribbean island with its diverse peoples and cultures.
Making SXM their base Luci has worked yacht provisioning, as a caterer and as charter chef on various yachts.
She is on the board of the 'Le Chaine de Rotisseurs' and notes, "In the 20 years we have been on SXM the supermarkets have become fantastic, carrying an ever greater variety of foods from all over the world".
She believes food is the most universal part of life and emphasizes the importance of using fresh local and seasonal ingredients whenever possible.
